Student-Faculty Mentorship Program

Self identifying women and nonbinary students are matched with faculty members from underrepresented groups in Economics and allied departments in Business, Finance and Public Policy to receive professional guidance relating to coursework, research and preparing for the job market as well as mentorship on how to navigate graduate school life.

Presentation Workshops for Job Market Candidates

The workshops are designed to offer a space to current self identifying women and nonbinary job market candidates to receive specialized feedback on their presentations from the faculty at large and receive advice on how to handle challenging and discriminatory circumstances that they might face on the job market.

Distinguished Speaker Series

This is an annual event that invites a distinguished economist from an underrepresented group. The event begins with an informal presentation by the speaker highlighting their personal trajectory into economics followed by a seminar highlighting their research. Students have an opportunity to interact with the speaker one on one for guidance on their research.

Past speakers have included Lisa Barrow (2023), Leah Boustan (2021), Sandra Black (2020). In 2019, we hosted the Women in Economics: Research, Ideas, Solutions, Executions (WERISE) Conference. In 2017 and 2018, we organized the Panel of Women in Economics.

Social Events

We organize an array of informal social events throughout the year such as department coffee hours and activity based outings for fostering community.
